The staff will redirect behavior and remind the children of the rules. Children are protected from themselves and others and staff will intervene when necessary. The director will support staff in problems that are out of control in the classroom or playground. Parents will be informed of any serious discipline problems. Corporal punishment and other humiliating or frightening techniques are prohibited. Punishment must not be associated with food, rest, isolation, illnesses or toilet training (Title 22 Department of Social Services).

  • Encourage and model appropriate behavior.
  • Redirect inappropriate behavior.
  • Remind children of the rules and the reasons for the rules.
  • Protect children from hurting each other and Intervene when necessary.
  • Give children a warning and responsible amount of time to follow through before imposing a consequence.
  • Staff is cautioned not to let  problems build up or be aggressive. Set limits and be sure to follow through.
  • It is important for parents to keep the Director, Office Manager, and Teacher aware of any concerns or problems a child might be experiencing apart from the school.
  • The use of “Positive Time Out” will be limited and exercised after other disciplining methods have been used.
